How to Hunt

art; book; nature; photo; white;
Book design for 'How to Hunt' photographic works by artists Trine Søndergaard and Nicolai Howalt.

In 'How to Hunt', Søndergaard and Howalt joined annual fall and winter hunts in Denmark and interpreted the age-old ritual of hunting – previously the act of human instinct and survival, whereas now more associated with perceptions of a privileged “good life.” 'How to Hunt' investigates the relationship between animals, people, and nature in a contemporary take on art history’s millennium-long interpretation of the hunting scenario.

The design of 'How to Hunt' is a series of subtle expressions faithful to the books subject matter. The offset linen bound front and back cover recalls the functional offset protective cloth patches seen on hunters clothing. Furthermore the compositions of the text pages take a direct landscape inspiration in their arrangement.

The book was published in conjunction with the exhibition
'Trine Søndergaard / Nicolai Howalt: How to Hunt' at ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Denmark
